Naturediet Information

Dogs naturally thrive on diets that are almost exclusively meat based, with very few carbohydrates.  Naturediet menus reproduce the dog’s natural diet to ensure overall health and well-being. Each menu is nutritionally balanced from only the finest quality natural meats, purchased from approved suppliers and processed to the same standards as those used for human consumption.  Naturediet menus are complete, natural, ready to serve, moist meals containing all the Essentials vitamins and minerals a dog needs. The aroma and appetising appearance of each meal mirrors home cooking and does not require any other supplementary food unless advised to do so by your veterinary surgeon.

What is not included in a pet food can be just as important as what is! For instance, cereals are a cheap ingredient and are therefore used in many dog foods. However, they should not form the major part of the diet, as they have been known to cause allergic reactions and other problems.  Naturediet menus contain a minimum 60% meat*, which follows the dog’s natural diet and feeding pattern. All of the vegetables used are fresh human grade.

All Naturediet menus Benedit from the addition of omega 3 and 6 for coat and skin condition.  (*except Senior/Lite Diet which has a higher vegetable content in order to lower calories)

When changing your dog to Naturediet from either a tinned or dried food, be careful to do so gradually over a one-week period.  Mix small amounts of Naturediet in with your dog’s normal food, gradually increasing the amount of Naturediet until you are feeding the recommended amount. The chart below is for guidance only. All dogs should be fed on an individual basis, with the amounts fed being increased or decreased according to the dog’s weight and condition.  “Sudden changes in diet can cause digestive upsets.”

The food you provide your dog is critical to his or her well-being. The holistic approach is based on addressing the ‘whole’ rather than just a symptom of a problem. For instance, a skin problema might actually be caused by sensitivity to a chemical additive in food. It therefore makes sense to start by addressing the problem from the inside by feeding a natural, balanced diet.

Naturediet is Different “Naturediet menus reproduce a dog’s natural diet to ensure overall health and well-being.”

ALLERGIES

Food allergies usually appear as skin irritations, digestive upsets or behavioural problems. Modern petfood manufacture uses high temperature processes for long time

periods, which have the potential to destroy or denature nutrients. This denaturing may change the protein in such a way that the body does not fully recognise it as being a natural food source.

The immune system may see these proteins as foreign substances which can trigger an allergic reaction.  Many of the Naturediet menus contain single meat protein sources and are cooked and sterilised in less than five minutes.

“If he’s itching, or being naughty consider whether his food could be the cause.”

Digestive Symptoms:  Vomiting, diarrhoea, raised temperature and obvious discomfort are common digestive symptoms of an allergic reaction.

Skin Symptoms: Itchy skin, redness, localised swelling, scaly skin and hair loss.

MAINTENANCE: Most adult pet dogs who are neither working dogs nor pregnant/lactating bitches are fed for maintenance. The standard Naturediet range is ideally suited for these dogs.

WORKING DOGS: A working dog will use up far more calories than the average pet dog.  Their energy requirements are much higher and they must be fed more than for normal maintenance.

PREGANANCY / LACTATION: Bitches require additional nutrients during the last four weeks of pregnancy.  The amount of food needs to be increased by 25-50%.  During lactation, the bitch’s requirement can increase by three times her normal maintenance levels depending on the size of her litter.

PUPPY:  Young puppies have very small stomachs so divide their total amount of food into at least four small meals a day. By six months, twice daily feeding is usually sufficient.
